For another year this event represents a new scenario which will serve as an opportunity for the principal entrepreneurs and investors in the sector to meet and network.
In this new edition of BStartup Talks we will get to know two people who are benchmarks in the international entrepreneurial ecosystem: Mark Tluszcz and Edith Yeung. They will both be interviewed by locally successful entrepreneurs, and they will discuss the growth of start-ups, business trends, the Asian markets, the importance of diversity in companies and how investors can add value, and become key, to development...
Mark Tluszcz is the Chairman of Wix.com and the CEO of Mangrove Capital Partners. His professional success includes being the first investor in Skype, which was sold to eBay in 2005, generating returns of 3 billion dollars for shareholders. Mark Tluszcz is also the Chairman of Wix, which is currently listed on the NASDAQ and is valued at 3.2 billion dollars. Through Mangrove Capital Partners he has invested in more than 100 companies, including several Spanish start-ups.
Edith Yeung is a partner of "500 start-ups", Head of Asia and General partner of "500 Mobile Collective Fund". She has invested in more than 40 companies, such as Hooked, DayDayCook, Felksy and AlSense. Edith is a specialist in mobile technology based start-ups, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality.
Mark Tluszcz and Edith Yeung will be interviewed by top ranking Spanish start-ups, all of which are Banco Sabadell investees:
Laura Urquizu, CEO of Redpoints, joined to lead the business, and under her management, the company has grown exponentially. The company is dedicated to brand protection, protecting copyright and preventing the distribution of illegal content online. Repoints has an excellent technology product and a strong strategic business model. It is currently operating on an international scale with significant market penetration in Europe and the United States. In 2014, this software company received support and guidance from BStartup 10 to further its development, making it one of the first start-ups to be invested in by Banco Sabadell entrepreneurs. In 2016, the company received a significant investment from Mangrove Capital Partners.
Cristóbal Viedma, Founder and CEO of Lingokids. The languages app offers language lessons in the format of interactive games for children aged between 2 and 6. The classes are delivered through an online subscription and a portal for parents. The app currently offers English and simplified Chinese classes. It is expected that Spanish classes will also be offered in the medium term. The lessons themselves are created using the games and entertainment platform Unity3D and they are executed in Android and iOS. Holtzbrinck Ventures, JME, Bessemer and Sabadell Venture Capital were the principal investors in the latest €4M investment round this year. They have recently closed an agreement with Oxford University Press to be featured on the covers of all of the publisher’s books.
Sergio González, COO of Cornerjob. Cornerjob is a job search platform available via a mobile app which puts candidates and recruiters in touch with each other, and it is aimed at non-executive profiles. Thanks to geolocation, the candidate can search for jobs which are closest to their home, and the recruiter then has a different way of capturing talent. It has recently closed an investment round worth 17 million to strengthen the company and to enter new countries. Simplicity and interaction, these are the keys to the success of Cornerjob, which, since its launch, has worked with more than 150,000 companies, which have published more than 500,000 adverts, and the app has been downloaded more than 7 million times.
